Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Officially Move to Frogmore Cottage and Out of Kensington Palace

  • Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have moved into their new home at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor.
  • Before, they were living in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace, which is based in London, since the time of their engagement in the fall of 2017.
  • The move comes weeks before Harry and Meghan are due to welcome their first child, and amidst their plans to establish their own royal household.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have officially moved out of Kensington Palace in London and into Frogmore Cottage in Windsor, a source confirms to BAZAAR.com. The big move, which was first announced months ago, comes just weeks before the couple are expected to welcome their first child together. (The baby is reportedly due at the end of April.)

"Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate," Kensington Palace said in the announcement in November. The exact reason for the couple's relocation was not disclosed, but it's been reported that Harry "wants to escape the goldfish bowl of royal life" as he and Meghan raise a family.

Up until now, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex had been living in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace since around the time of their engagement in November 2017. (Harry actually proposed in the cottage one night while they were making dinner.) Prince William, Kate Middleton, and their children also live on the Palace grounds.

The move also arrives as the couple establish their own royal household separate from William and Kate's at Kensington Palace. This means they'll have their own staff based at Buckingham Palace and reporting to the Queen's private secretary. They've already hired a head of communications, Sarah Latham, and launched their own official Instagram page at @SussexRoyal.

Frogmore House

Frogmore Cottage is a ten-bedroom royal residence on the same grounds as Frogmore House, which is where Meghan and Harry hosted their wedding reception and took their engagement portraits. It was revamped to reportedly include a nursery, private gym and yoga studio. In fact, Harry and Meghan's move was delayed by about a month due to ongoing renovations at their new home.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have also moved out of their country home in the Cotswolds, which is where they spent most of their weekends out of the hustle and bustle of London.
